Scholarship programmes

Our scholarship programmes, ‘Braunschweig Projects’ and ‘Dorothea Erxleben’, provide financial support for emerging artists at the HBK Braunschweig. They represent our fundamental commitment to early career artists and to the artistic development of our University.

Braunschweig Projects

Braunschweig Projects was developed to help us to meet our commitment to supporting postgraduate artists. Through a partnership between HBK Braunschweig and the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture, a residency programme was established administered by the HBK Braunschweig with special funding from the Federal State of Lower Saxony to promote international artists.
In this way, Braunschweig Projects helps us to meet our dual aim of supporting emerging artists while also developing international projects.

Dorothea-Erxleben Programm

The Dorothea Erxleben Programme was developed in partnership with the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture and the Federal State of Lower Saxony Committee for the Arts, from an initiative put forward by two arts universities (the HBK Braunschweig and Hanover University of Music, Arts and Media). In its funding structure, its design and its implementation it is unique in Germany.

The programme offers scholarships and teaching opportunities to female artists with the aim of preparing them for professorships. As such, it is a significant step towards greater equal opportunities for women in early career development programmes. Evaluation of the programme shows that at the HBK Braunschweig, 33% of women who participated in the programme went on to gain professorships.
